Articles

Articles
There are two types of articles in the English language: the definite article (the) and the indefinite article (a, an).
  • You usually use a/an with a count noun the first time you say or write that noun:
  • You use an (not a) when the next word (adverb, adjective, noun) starts with a vowel sound:
E.g.: He is wearing a suit and a tie. He is eating an apple.
                 They have a cat.
  • However, for the second time the same word is used, ‘the’ is used before it:
E.g.: The suit is black and the tie is white.
                The apple looks quite ripe.
                The cat’s name is Sniffy.
